Hello,
Me again

I've got a vitamin d deficiency
It's very low apparently which may be why I'm sleepy lots
Apparently it's not uncommon in auto immune things
Symptoms inc rib pain
Deep bone and muscles aches and pains.
Extreme fatigue.

So pretty vague but it might be worth having these things checked out if you have some of these things. It's just an extra blood test to add to the list - the ones on bones and vit d

Hi Jenni,

I've been a member for nearly four years now and this is my first post! Just thought I'd say that I have Vit D deficiency too. My Consultant originally iinvestigated it about eighteen months ago and recommended a supplement which I have been taking. I get very tired sometimes like you do. I have a different Consultant now as the previous one left and the current one doesn't take much notice of it! However, I still persevere with the supplement and also sitting in the sun (when it does come out) - I think that may help a bit too, and it's a good excuse to sit and relax for a little while!

Hi Jenni

You sound surprised?! Not sure why with all your experience Tongue

Low Vitamin D is extremely common in Rheumatoid and I imagine a large number of us are taking a prescribed supplement such as Adcal D3 or similar to keep this in check. It's also particularly useful for anyone on long term steroids as the added calcium helps to prevent osteoporosis and related bone issues.

Sunshine, when we see it, is also a useful tool for increasing Vitamin D levels ... but be very careful if taking meds such as Methotrexate which alter various chemical balances in the body and can lead to burning.

Hope you get it sorted soon, it should help with the fatigue levels.

Hi Jenni,

I was found to be deficient in Vit D and calcium about 2 years ago, as Lyn says it's very common with RA.
I take Calcichew tabs which are Calcium and vit D (when I remember, for some reason I tend to forget them!) and at the last test my calcium was almost back to normal but Vit D still low. It's not surprising in this country ,we get so little sunshine.

Just a quick post if anyone is interested, I also take calcichew. I was originally told to take one tab night and morning but a diff. G.P. advised me to either suck or chew the 2 tabs last thng at night just before bed as the body absorbes them better over night when resting.

Lynne just wondering is Adcal D3 similar to calcichew ie. calcium and vit D ? Thanks Zena.

I also have recently been told i have a Vit D deficiency ...

This was only checked when i was screened for Biologics 4 weeks ago .
I was given a weeks worth of Vit D tablets (10,000 times the RDA) and now on Adcal D3 twice a day .
Calcichew is the same as Adcal D3 see here

There does seem to be some kind of link between Vit D deficiency and autoimmune disorders. I wonder if I've ever been tested. I was only offered Calcichew when I was on steroids. This post has got me thinking, especially as I have a lot of muscle pain and fatigue. I wonder why the test isn't done regularly for us. I'll ask about this nest time I talk to the nurse or consultant. Thanks everyone!
